Louis Gene Mitchell, 85, of Providence passed away on Wednesday May 29, 2024, at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville, KY.

Mr. Mitchell was born on February 13, 1939, in Providence, KY, the son of the late Mr. Louis Mitchell and Mrs. Mitchell. He is preceded in death by his wife, Faye Mitchell on January 28, 2023, his daughter, Cathy Mitchell, his sister, Doris Marie Mears, and his brother, James Martin.

Mr. Mitchell was a member of First Baptist Church in Providence, KY; Providence Masonic Lodge #148 F & AM, a United States Air Force veteran where he was stationed in France, he was an avid Ham Radio Operator, he was known as Bluetop on the CB radio, he retired as a Kentucky  State Mine Inspector, he enjoyed sitting on the front porch swing drinking coffee and telling jokes.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his daughters, Genie (Keith) McDowell of  Providence, KY; Dianna (James) Skelton of Gordonsville, TN; Cindy Jones of California; one son, Wayne Mitchell of Providence, KY; his grandchildren, Trent (Amy) McDowell of Providence, KY;, Cathy Lee  (Josh) Blanford of Henderson,, KY; Cindy Barnes of Eddyville, KY; his great grandchildren, Maya Blanford, Mylee McDowell, Allee McDowell, Dawson McDowell, and Katelyn Tabor.

Masonic services will be held at 12:30 PM at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held on Friday May 31, 2024, at 1:00PM in the chapel of Melton Funeral Home with Bro. Ralph Alexander officiating. A burial will follow in the White Oak Cemetery near Clay, KY with military honors provided by the Hopkins County Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 10:00AM until the service hour on Friday May 31, 2024, at Melton Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Trent McDowell, Josh Blanford, Mark Turner, Ryan Watson, Jamie Pryor, and David Yager.
